Why choose Fedora Workstation?

Fedora Linux, along with big names like Ubuntu, Debian and Red Hat, is one of the most popular Linux distributions. The Fedora Workstation operating system is very actively maintained and almost always has the latest kernel, software, driver updates and other linux functionalities. So a perfect choice if you always want to be up to date or want to use the latest hardware.

Fedora’s community is very large. In addition to the Fedora IRC channel and Reddit community, there are numerous forums populated by Fedora users from all over the world. Fedora 40 Workstation comes standard with the GNOME desktop environment, but is also available with KDE, XFCE, LXQT, MATE, Cinnamon, LXDE, and SOAS.

Unlike Ubuntu and Debian, which use dpkg, Fedora uses RPM package manager. RPM has more features than dpkg, such as confirmation of installed packages, history, and rollback. In addition, Fedora Linux only comes with open-source software and not proprietary software like Ubuntu. This can be disadvantageous because if you do want to use it, you have to install the closed proprietary software yourself. On the other hand, this is an advantage for people who prefer to use open software only.

System requirements Fedora 40 Workstation

This is what Fedora Project calls the minimum and recommended system requirements for installing the workstation version of Fedora 40 (source). Please note that this refers to physical installations and not virtual installations.
